After Cyclone Eloise

Donate to Help Rebuild

The Aftermath of Eloise

A Category 2 hurricane once again slammed central Mozamique on the night of January 22. We are in a considerably better state after "Eloise" than we were after Idai in 2019. However, many people still lost so much. We've been busy helping as many people as we can recover, feed their families, and rebuild once again.
Flooded streets and downed power lines are a common sight again.

Help Rebuild

We are surrounded by many people in need of help now, and YOU can be part of the effort! Many thanks to everyone who saw our fundraiser on Facebook and already responded generously, you have made it possible to get some food for some people who lost everything. We also want to help several people rebuild their homes, and in some cases all it would take is LESS THAN $50 to put a roof back on or replace a few windows. Would you consider helping them?

Eloise by the Numbers

According to the government's preliminary assessments:

At least 6 people died & 12 were injured
8,300 are displaced
8,800 houses destroyed, damaged or flooded
160 classrooms & 26 health centres damaged
142,000 hectares of crops flooded
176,000+ people affected

Praise Reports:

  • That the cyclone was not as severe as the one in 2019
  • That before the cyclone many people were evacuated from the areas that experienced the worst flooding--this saved many lives!
  • That many people were so much better prepared this time, with boarded windows and weighed-down roofs making the damage much more manageable.

Prayer Requests:

  • For all the rebuilding efforts to have the resources they need.
  • That there will not be any outbreaks of cholera like after Idai, because of contaminated water after the floods.
  • That the farmers will be able to salvage their crops, or that enough aid will come into the area to offset the losses.
  • For all the relief groups trying to battle a natural disaster and a worsening pandemic at the same time.
